Successfully completed the Periodic Assessment of the NATO M&S COE

Rome – The purpose of the activity was to ensure that the M&S COE still meets the NATO Military Committee mandated criteria for accreditation as a NATO Centre of Excellence.

The last Periodic Assessment was conducted on 2015. In between these assessments, the NATO M&S COE has constantly strived to maintain and further develop its level of excellence through the cooperation with its communities of interest: academia, industry, military, interagency and science.

HeadQuarters Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (HQ SACT) conducted the M&S Periodic Assessment virtually this year due to COVID related restrictions.

The event was closed by Major General Guillermo CAVO, Deputy Chief of Staff for Joint Force Development and the Flag Officer Champion for the M&S COE, in presence of Rear-Admiral Gino Mazzei Deputy Chief of Italian VI Department.

As concluded by the HQ SACT’s Periodic Assessment Team, the NATO M&S COE prove to be a valuable asset in transformation efforts of Allied Command Transformation and therefore deserves a continued NATO accreditation.

The M&S COE Periodic Assessment report will be sent to the MC for notation.

During the assessment, Colonel Michele TURI, the NATO M&S COE Director, stated that “Our vision of excellence is to be open minded and flexible. This successful evaluation represents an important milestone to us. The new challenges of the NATO M&S COE are to better support HQ SACT and to contribute to NATO’s Transformational Efforts. For example, The NATO M&S COE will continue to provide quality education to the Alliance through our M&S courses. The Centre will continue to expand its knowledge and application of wargaming and decision support through different models and tools. The NATO M&S COE is poised to remain excellent and a valuable resource to NATO and the Alliance.
