NATO M&S Basic Course 2022 – 1st Session

The NATO Modelling & Simulation Centre of Excellence (NATO M&S COE) conducted the 12th edition of the NATO M&S Basic Course from 22-25 March 2022.

The Course, accredited by the NATO Joint Force Trainer as “NATO Approved”, is included in the NATO Education and Training Opportunities Catalogue. It is open to NATO and PfP Nations and Organizations. The course objective is to deliver basic information about Modelling & Simulation use in the military context.

Traditionally, these courses have been conducted in our Centre’s facilities in Rome. Recently, M&S COE made this course available virtually to allow an increased participation, and enlarging the M&S interest. The first edition in 2022 was very successful and unique resulting in 43 students coming from 12 different countries. The course included some coming from Qatar (precisely from Qatar Armed Forces Joint Warfare Training Center-JWTC), and students from other NATO and national entities.

Additionally in this edition, it was presented for the first time a short briefing about Modelling and Simulation in Training, with use cases from Ravenswood Solutions.

Colonel Stefano Lo Storto, the NATO M&S COE Director, stated that, “In the last 10 years hundreds of students attended our courses in order to support the NATO Training & Education pillar. In particular this course allows students to learn the history of M&S, the differences between Live, Virtual, and Constructive simulation and other topics to provide a basic but in-depth knowledge on M&S. These online courses constitute one of the greater efforts of the M&S COE in its resilience in conducting E&T in this particular moment of pandemic since 2020”.
