NATO Modelling & Simulation Centre of Excellence takes actions against COVID-19
Rome- At the NATO M&S COE (NATO Modelling & Simulation Centre of Excellence), located at the “Adriano De Cicco” barracks in Rome-Cecchignola – Headquarters of the 6th Department of Defense Staff under the command of Gen. Enrico Degni – all activities are performed both in person at the Centre and in “Home Working” in order to adhere to the current safety precautions.
All of the current provisions related to social distancing, sanitation and personnel protection have been implemented, taking into account the Centre’s assigned tasks in order to maintain the appropriate level of effectiveness in carrying out its mission.
Additionally, to increase the Centre’s ability to allow more people to work in the office, the COE has installed, throughout its facilities, a unique sanitization system composed of UV-C lamps. These devices guarantee 99.99% effectiveness against bacteria and viruses thanks to the combined effect of UV-radiation C and the very low amount of ozone produced by bio-induction (amount well below the recognized hazard threshold).
Located in all areas, including classrooms, this system has been installed and certified in accordance with EU legislation; each device is able to sanitize environments up to 40 m2 in just sixty minutes.
The UV-C lamps, together with “conventional” protection measures – like the adoption of surgical masks, the use of sanitizing products, the installation of transparent dividing screens between workstations, and the reduction of the staff in offices, just to name a few – allow the Center to significantly reduce the risk for infection.
Furthermore, specialized personnel periodically sanitize the “De Cicco” premises in accordance with the provisions of the Ministry of Health.
Inside the Cecchignola Military Compound, the Italian Army currently run a large “Drive through” COVID-19 test center in collaboration with the Military Hospital “Celio” in Rome and the support of the medical staff of ASL Rome 2.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the NATO M&S COE has been able to increase its institutional activities leveraging its technological equipment in order to allow the Centre’s Staff to carry on projects and activities while in “Home Working“. As a result of its organization, the Centre accomplished over 65 specific activities included in its “Program of Work” while only approximately 12% were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
