Another successful online edition of the NATO M&S Basic Course
Rome – from 23 to 26 March 2021 the NATO Modelling & Simulation Centre Of Excellence (NATO M&S COE) conducted the 10th edition of the NATO M&S Basic Course from the “Adriano De Cicco” barracks in Rome.
The purpose of this course is to deliver basic knowledge about the M&S use in the military context.
Following NATO ACT guidance (due to Covid-19), the course was conducted through e-learning with live virtual lessons from instructors located in different countries.
This online edition was successfully attended by 45 students from four different European countries. Most of the students were military (40 between Officers and Warrant Officers). The number of students was intentionally limited in order to guarantee a higher level of quality and valuable interaction between the instructors and students. Due to the high demand, a second NATO M&S Basic Course is currently scheduled from 9 to 12 November 2021. The decision to conduct this course in residence or online will be confirmed at the end of August 2021.
Colonel Michele TURI, the NATO M&S COE Director, during his introductory message stated: “This change of instructional strategy with live virtual classrooms, made a strong impact on the overall organization of the course. The M&S COE has initiated a programme blending live, residential courses with a global audience of speakers and students in virtual classrooms. We are currently increasing our online course portfolio for 2021 to offer our students the best possible opportunity to prepare, not only for resident courses, but also to improve our course programme, by offering students online courses on topics of interest to enhance their knowledge in the M&S field“.
