20th Meeting of the NATO M&S COE Steering Committee

Rome – The NATO M&S COE hosted the 20th Steering Committee meeting from 4-5 April 2023 in the “Adriano De Cicco” barracks in Cecchignola, Rome.

The meeting brought together the national representatives from the NATO M&S COE’s Sponsoring Nations – Italy, the Czech Republic, Germany, and the United States

The meeting was an opportunity for the NATO M&S COE to review the progress the Centre is making on research and projects in 2023 and to and to discuss different aspects of the operation of the Centre.  The Centre is focused on Wargaming activities in support of NATO’s efforts as well as continuing projects on Electro-Magnetic Spectrum Operations, AI/ML and improving our M&S course curriculum.  The NATO M&S COE’s main effort is to support NATO’s Warfare Development Agenda and its subsequent Lines of Delivery.  As was discussed with the national representatives, one of the Centre’s main avenues to support NATO is by integrating into the Next Generation of M&S capability programme.  This programme will set the stage for modelling and simulation throughout the Alliance for years to come.

During the opening of the meeting, the NATO M&S COE Director, Colonel Francesco Pacillo (ITA A), stated “This past year the Centre made great strides in the NATO Next Generation M&S Capability Program, which is supposed to provide NATO with all necessary M&S services for Training & Education, Wargaming and Analysis in the next future. NATO M&S COE is working together with HQ SACT in order to provide the right solutions that meet NATO user requirements. Furthermore, we are aligning our POW with NATO NexGen M&S to ensure high quality services now and beyond. Our daily effort is to bring the M&S community together at every opportunity to innovate and present solutions while connecting ideas from military, academia and industry”.

The next big appointment will be the 18th NATO CA2X2 (Computer Assisted Analysis, Exercise, Experimentation) Forum, that will take place from 3 to 5 October 2023 in Rome (Italy).
